THE SEA OF MONSTERS

The Sea of Monsters
by Rick Riordan
2006
279 pages

From Back Cover:
Percy Jackson's seventh-grade year has been surprisingly quiet. Not a single monster has set foot on his New York prep-school campus. But when an innocent game of dodge ball among Percy and his classmates turns into a death match against an ugly gang of cannibal giants, things get....well, ugly. And the unexpected arrival of Percy's friend Annabeth brings more bad news: the magical borders that protect Camp Half-Blood have been poisoned by a mysterious enemy, and unless a cure is found, the only safe haven for demigods will be destroyed. Percy and his friends must journey into the Sea of Monsters to save their beloved camp. But first, Percy will discover a stunning new secret about his family-one that makes him wonder whether being claimed as Poseidon's son is an honor, or simply a cruel joke.
My thoughts:
This is the second book in the series Percy Jackson & The Olympians and it doesn't disappoint.
Percy's adventures continue as he embarks on a quest to rescue his best friend, Grover who is about to be married against his will. It's also left up to him and Annabeth to find a cure for a poison that is killing the life force of Camp Half-Blood. This time he's forced into an unwilling partnership with his nemesis, Clarisse who's pride could very well get them killed this time.
Along the way he will deal with the Gray Sisters, Cyclopes, Hermes, Circe and Sirens. This is mythology at it's best.
I loved this second installment of the series and look forward to reading the third book called The Titan's Curse. I haven't seen the movie- The Lightening Thief yet. I'll admit that I'm a little scared after the way that Eragon and Inkheart was butchered.
I recommend this book for ages 10 and up. It would be a perfect summer series for middle schoolers, high schoolers or adults to dive into for the summer.
This book is available for check out at the Salmon Public Library.
