A murder mystery full of trickery, deceit, deception...need I say more?
I'm giving away a beautiful hardback copy of-
Summary taken from Goodreads:
SHHHH!
Don't spread the word!
Three-day weekend. Party at White Rock House on Henry Island.
You do NOT want to miss it.
It was supposed to be the weekend of their lives—an exclusive house party on Henry Island. Best friends Meg and Minnie each have their reasons for being there (which involve T.J., the school’s most eligible bachelor) and look forward to three glorious days of boys, booze and fun-filled luxury.
But what they expect is definitely not what they get, and what starts out as fun turns dark and twisted after the discovery of a DVD with a sinister message: Vengeance is mine.
Suddenly people are dying, and with a storm raging, the teens are cut off from the outside world. No electricity, no phones, no internet, and a ferry that isn’t scheduled to return for two days. As the deaths become more violent and the teens turn on each other, can Meg find the killer before more people die? Or is the killer closer to her than she could ever imagine?

A Book on My Radar.....

FAT ANGIE
e.E. Charlton-Trujillo
2013
Candlewick Publishing
Synopsis taken from Goodreads:
Angie is broken — by her can’t-be-bothered mother, by her high-school tormenters, and by being the only one who thinks her varsity-athlete-turned-war-hero sister is still alive. Hiding under a mountain of junk food hasn’t kept the pain (or the shouts of "crazy mad cow!") away. Having failed to kill herself — in front of a gym full of kids — she’s back at high school just trying to make it through each day. That is, until the arrival of KC Romance, the kind of girl who doesn’t exist in Dryfalls, Ohio. A girl who is one hundred and ninety-nine percent wow! A girl who never sees her as Fat Angie, and who knows too well that the package doesn’t always match what’s inside. With an offbeat sensibility, mean girls to rival a horror classic, and characters both outrageous and touching, this darkly comic anti-romantic romance will appeal to anyone who likes entertaining and meaningful fiction.

Book Review-WITHER

WITHER
By Lauren Destefano
358 Pages
2011
Taken from Goodreads:
By age sixteen, Rhine Ellery has four years left to live. She can thank modern science for this genetic time bomb. A botched effort to create a perfect race has left all males with a lifespan of 25 years, and females with a lifespan of 20 years. Geneticists are seeking a miracle antidote to restore the human race, desperate orphans crowd the population, crime and poverty have skyrocketed, and young girls are being kidnapped and sold as polygamous brides to bear more children. When Rhine is kidnapped and sold as a bride, she vows to do all she can to escape. Her husband, Linden, is hopelessly in love with her, and Rhine can’t bring herself to hate him as much as she’d like to. He opens her to a magical world of wealth and illusion she never thought existed, and it almost makes it possible to ignore the clock ticking away her short life. But Rhine quickly learns that not everything in her new husband’s strange world is what it seems. Her father-in-law, an eccentric doctor bent on finding the antidote, is hoarding corpses in the basement. Her fellow sister wives are to be trusted one day and feared the next, and Rhine is desperate to communicate to her twin brother that she is safe and alive. Will Rhine be able to escape--before her time runs out?Together with one of Linden's servants, Gabriel, Rhine attempts to escape just before her seventeenth birthday. But in a world that continues to spiral into anarchy, is there any hope for freedom?
My Thoughts:
I chose this book off the shelf because the cover took my breath away. It's a piece of art.
The fact that it was a dystopian book was the cherry on top!
This is a debut novel for author Lauren DeStefano and the first book in the planned The Chemical Garden Trilogy.
The story catches you attention from the first page. The main character is literally kidnapped off the street as she is walking to school and thrown into the back of a truck with a bunch of other girls. The story takes off at break neck speed from there.
I was transfixed as the Rhine finds herself taken from a place of desperation and uncertainty and dropped into a world of riches and luxury. Of course this comes with a price. She has been taken to be a bride, to bear children, and live in captivity until she dies.
Every moment is spent planning her escape and reunion with her brother who was left behind. But Rhine finds herself unintentionally growing close to her sister wives and even her new husband who longs for a connection and future with her.
As Rhine searches for a way out she stumbles upon an evil secret her father in law is keeping in the basement. Something much more sinister than kidnappings.
If she stays with Lindon she has loyalty, love and security. If she goes with Gabriel she faces the unknown with her freedom.
Either way Rhine is running out of time.

BOOK REVIEW-Poison

POISON
By Molly Cochran
368 Pages
2012
Simon and Schuster
Synopsis by Goodreads:
After the riveting—and romantic—events of Legacy, Katy has won Peter’s heart and is now claiming her place in the magical world. Though half the students at her boarding school come from witching lines, the use of magic is expressly forbidden at Ainsworth, so as to keep the witching world hidden from the blue-blooded preppies, aka Muffies, who also walk the halls.
But the Muffies have at least a notion of magic, because Katy catches them staging a made-up ritual—and to her astonishment, the girls collapse at Katy’s feet and fall into comas. When Katy is blamed, she becomes desperate to clear her name and finds herself battling all odds to harness her growing magical powers in order to save the Muffies and dispel the Darkness once more.

My thoughts:
Poison is the exciting sequel to Legecy and author, Molly Cochran wastes no time picking up where we left off.
Katy is a full time student at Ainsworth School where she does she best to hide her magical abilities from the Muffies who are normal kids who attend the same school.
Katy has adjusted well to small town life with friends, family and sweet boyfriend, Peter. But bad luck finds Katy as she stumbles upon a few mean Muffies trying to cast amateur spells. Unfortunately they unwittingly unleash the Darkness that has been lying in wait for the opportunity to spread death and chaos.
My favorite character in this story would have to be Morgan-a new character to the trilogy with a interesting and complex past. Is she friend or foe to Katy?
Katy and Peter's relationship also reaches a new level of difficulty and maturity as he establishes a relationship with his biological family who can give him wealth and security-but at what cost?
One small annoyance I did have with the story is minor character-Hattie. I was very confused by her role and relationship to Katy. I feel like Hattie(Peter's surrogote mom) was thrown into Poison because she was in the first story but didn't really have a place in the sequel-when she was present she seems to dislike Katy-hissing or snapping at her-why?
All in all I really liked Poison and I've enjoyed the series so far. I would definielty continue to read about the adventures of Katy Ainsworth.
Thank you to Simon and Schuster for providing me with this ARC to read and review.

The Girl In The Wall Giveaway

Here's a chance to win a free book-

Summary taken from Goodreads-
Ariel's birthday weekend looks to be the event of the season, with a private concert by rock star Hudson Winters on the grounds of her family's east coast estate, and all of Ariel's elite prep school friends in attendance. The only person who's dreading the party is Sera, Ariel's former best friend, whose father is forcing her to go. Sera has been the school pariah since she betrayed Ariel, and she now avoids Ariel and their former friends. Thrown together, Ariel and Sera can agree on one thing: this could be one very long night.
They have no idea just how right they are.
Only moments after the concert begins and the lights go down, thugs open fire on parents and schoolmates alike, in a plot against Ariel's father that quickly spins out of control. As the entire party is taken hostage, the girls are forced apart. Ariel escapes into the hidden tunnels in the family mansion, where she and Sera played as children. Only Sera, who forges an unlikely alliance with Hudson Winters, knows where her friend could be. As the industrial terrorist plot unravels and the death toll climbs, Ariel and Sera must recall the sisterhood that once sustained them as they try to save themselves and each other on the longest night of their lives.

Book Review-THEN YOU WERE GONE

THEN YOU WERE GONE
by Lauren Strasnick
224 Pages
2013
Simon Pulse
Synopsis by Goodreads:
Two years ago, Adrienne’s best friend walked out of her life. One week ago, she left Adrienne a desperate, muffled voicemail. Adrienne never called back.
Now Dakota is missing. She left behind a string of broken hearts, a flurry of rumors, and a suicide note.
Adrienne can’t stop obsessing over what might have happened if she’d answered Dakota’s call. And she’s increasingly convinced that Dakota must still be alive.
Maybe finding and saving Dakota is the only way Adrienne can save herself.
Or maybe it’s too late for them both.

My thoughts:
I love that moment you start a book and few pages in you  realize that you've stumbled on an amazing story. All sense of time blurs and eyes can't seem to move fast enough down the page.
At the center of the story is Adrienne-who receives a mysterious voice mail from an old frenemy who has disappeared. Has Dakota been the victim of a kidnapping/murder? Did she possibly commit suicide? Adrienne is left feeling guilty for not returning what could have been a call for help and puzzled as to why an old friend who walked out of her life would reach out to her now? Caught between conflicting emotions of grief and anger Adrienne struggles to keep her life together as she tries to find closure in a complex friendship with a girl who she both loved and hated.
But this story isn't just about relationships, there is a mystery at the heart of it that feeds the reader bits and pieces throughout-finally revealing itself at the end.
Wow!
Then You Were Gone left me with my head spinning and heart racing.
A big thank you to Simon and Schuster for giving me the opportunity to read and review this ARC.
I will be giving this ARC away to one lucky reader in a contest next month.
